One of my favorite resources for fixing up my home space here in L.A. is a little shop in Santa Monica called Acapillow. They have all kinds of neat accessories and furnishings from around the world, but they specialize in unique textiles and fabrics, some of them new and some of them vintage. You might find vintage sari fabric from India made into pillows, or Hawaiian Bark cloth for some curtains for your son's surf's bedroom. She also has high quality new furniture and a few well chosen antique pieces. I just purchased a 19th century tilt top table there for a great price. Her inventory turns over quickly, so there are always new items whenever I stop in. I've become friends with Eleanor who runs the shop and have found her an inventive and creative ally. She custom designed a cushion for my rattan sofa, she does slipcovers and other textile projects and she wholesales her pillows to design sources all over the world. She's the rare design person who's happy to spend time and get to know her clients and somehow I always leave her shop with a smile on my face.
